Eucalypt Homewares products are all hand made in Melanie’s back yard studio in Perth WA. They are made by the slip casting process.  Melanie designs the form, makes a prototype out of clay and takes a plaster caste of it.  Slip (liquid clay) is poured into the mould, timed and then poured out leaving a shell of solid clay which when dry “pops” out of the mould.  The pieces are then cleaned up, bisque fired, sanded, glazed and then re-fired.  The colour (or ceramic stain) is added to the clay body before it is caste. The pieces, although fine, are fired to almost stoneware temperatures and are durable and safe to hold hot or cold food or liquid.  They can be used in the microwave and washed in the dishwasher or by hand (with care of the rims so not to chip). Below are images taken in Melanie’s studio over the last few years.
